Salve for Atopic Dermatitis

Atopic Dermatitis (AD) is an inflammatory skin condition that causes dry, itchy skin that can appear anywhere on the body. Other symptoms of AD include:

  • A rash

  • Small raised bumps

  • Thickened skin

  • Oozing and crusting

While this condition should be addressed internally, there are topical treatments that can also be used.

Salve for AD

Ingredients

2.5 tbsp St. John's wort (antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory)

2.5 tbsp Calendula (anti-inflammatory and vulnerary, anti-pruritic)

2.5 tbsp Comfrey (vulnerary, anti-inflammatory and astringent)

125 ml olive oil

250 mg shea butter

 

Instructions

  1. Add olive oil to a slow cooker or double boiler

  2. Add all 3 herbs to the olive oil

  3. Infuse in a slow cooker or double boiler on low heat for 3 hours

  4. Pour the mixture through cheesecloth

  5. Return the oil mixture to the slow cooker

  6. Add 250 mg shea butter and stir until it melts

  7. Remove from heat and pour into containers, ideally glass, and let it cool
