Get To Know Me

Hello, I’m Doneisha. I’m a Naturopathic Doctor, Health Consultant and Health Educator and I am dedicated to helping people feel better every day.
My goal is to offer transformational care to women who value their health and want to make a lifelong investment in their lives. I missed the opportunity to help one of the most important women in my life. My grandma died when I was 10 and I often wish that she was still here. Growing up without her was hard for me and sometimes I wonder what life would be like if she was still around. I don't want others to lose loved ones because of inaccessibility to care or ignorance. I want to help women to see that the best investment they can make is in their health.

I remember when I was in high school I spoke to one of my mentors who was a Lab Technician. I told him that I wanted to be a Lab Technician like he was. But he said to me, 'You need to aim higher than that, you should be a doctor'. That was the first time I had even considered becoming a doctor and I kept his words in the back of my mind.
I did my undergraduate degree at York University where I completed my Bachelor of Science in Biology. After graduation I wasn't exactly sure what I wanted to do. I thought about things I loved and I knew I loved anatomy. I was volunteering at the Toronto General Hospital at the time and a friend of mine that worked at the hospital spoke to one of her colleagues and I got the opportunity to shadow a pathologist assistant that did autopsies. It was such a life changing and positive experience that confirmed my love for anatomy.
I started my Master of Science degree in Human Anatomy at the University of Edinburgh. During my program I learned how the body worked and how intricately connected everything is. It solidified my desire to keep learning more about the body and I wanted to do a PhD in Anatomy to teach at the university level. When I graduated, I returned to Canada still thinking that I was going to do a PhD, but that didn't work out.
As I kept thinking about what I wanted to do, I started thinking about the changes I had made while in Edinburgh. I had stopped eating meat because I didn't want to spend time cooking it and I noticed major differences in my health. I noticed that I had more clarity, it was easy to remember everything I studied and my grades were amazing. I felt like a new person just from changing my diet and exercising every day. I realized that I didn't need to get sick. Even though I had a family history of hypertension or diabetes it didn't have to be my fate. I knew I wanted to go back to school but I wanted to study something that was in line with my new found values around health. During this time I was watching a lot of health videos on YouTube from Naturopathic doctors and coaches about health and they piqued my interest. That's when I thought about studying Naturopathic Medicine. It focused on principles of prevention, healthful living, identifying and treating the root cause, taking care of the whole person.
I started my program at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine. It was an intense four years and I later graduated with a Doctor of Naturopathy degree. This was the culmination of many years of hard work and determination and I have finally found my purpose for being here.
