Cold Compress
A cold compress involves applying a cold cloth to any part of the body. A cold compress decreases blood flow to the area where it is applied.
Materials
A towel or wash cloth depending on the body part being treated
Container with ice or cold water
Sheets for the bed
Dry towel
Instructions
Make sure the patient is in a comfortable position
Place the towel or wash cloth in the cold water and wring it out
Apply the cold towel to the area being treated
Do not cover the cold compress
Treatment time is 20-30 minutes
After the treatment use a dry towel to dry the patient thoroughly
This treatment can be used for edema, congestion, inflamed organs, heat, redness or pain
Caution
Do not do this treatment if the person has a cold sensitivity or if the person is unable to give you feedback on the treatment
